My magnificent month of May making MEMORIES.

May has been madness. If you haven't guessed it before, I'm a sucker for alliteration :) haha

I have been really enjoying using my new studio space and have found it makes such a difference to my sessions being able to move from 1 set-up to another seamlessly. It means less disruption to the baby, greater variety of photos for Mum & Dad and faster session times for me. Check out some of these little ones who have visited me this month.
I also had the honour of photographing a Debutante session for the lovely Kate. I photographed Kate's sister's Deb 2 years ago and was so pleased her Mother asked me back to capture Kate's day. I had told myself I wasn't going to do Deb sessions anymore and to just focus of my baby and family niche, but I enjoyed it so much I don't think I can help myself. Deb sessions will remain available :)
May also marked the final month of pregnancy for one of my lovely clients. Jess & I have been meeting up once a month since the beginning of her pregnancy to create a beautiful timeline of her baby's growth from month to month. As I am writing this post a month later, I have already met and photographed her little man who will be in next months June post.
May also marked the official opening of my new studio, which I'll post about separately. And I also found time amongst all these sessions to take a weekend trip to Mildura and while we were there we had some family photos taken. It's very strange for me to be on the other side of the camera, but I enjoyed the whole experience and love every single photo. It's so nice to feel what my client's feel when I give them their photos.
So without further ado, here are my March photos.

The best birthday present - April

April 2017 has been a big month for me. I turned 30 years old and couldn't be happier with life right now. I mean how did I get so lucky!  --- stop right there --- Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be one of those people who put out the perception that my life is perfect, because it is far from that. Yes I have a successful little business, but I work damn hard for it and make sacrifices everyday to make it work. Midnight is an early night for me, my daughter is late for pre school EVERY day, I no patience for my own kid (and oodles for every one elses), my house is only cleaned when my fantastic house cleaner comes (yep first to admit it). I could keep going... I can't cook, we eat far to much take-away, I missed my chiropractor appointment over a month ago and still haven't called to re-book or apologise, my kid eats sugar everyday (damn you Mums who have your kids eating 'colours of the rainbow') and as a result is a moody little mite full of attitude. I joined the gym 3 months ago and still have only been once, I don't walk my dogs, I don't text people back (sorry friends, I just forget) and to make up for not seeing my friends I hound them for hours on the phone so I get some adult conversation. My life is chaos, but it's a happy chaos. Perfectly imperfect in every way. Yes, there are still things I am working on and trying to change some bad habits, but at the end of the day when I look at my little family my heart just explodes with love. I am just so thankful for the love we have and everything in our lives. I really am so lucky.
So heres to 30 years, bring on the wrinkles, my mum-tum can stay for a little longer while I spend my free time with the ones that matter and appreciating all that I have.
Oh, and heres some pretty photos that I took during April. You know your in a happy place with your work when you look back through and can't narrow down favourites, so I'm sharing a little bit more this month, because why not :)

Amazing August | The Baby Summit 2016 | Pennie Hall Photography goes to the big smoke (& coast) :)

August was was of the most amazing months of my life and my journey as a Photographer. This will probably be a long post, but I can't get it out in a short amount of words just how lucky I am!
I going to take you right back to the beginning...
A lot of people ask me how I got into what I do and my story is the same as 90% of newborn photographers.. it started when I had my own baby. I hadn't organised newborn photos and once my daughter was born it was so much harder than I anticipated, photos hit the back burner and I missed out. I didn't realise at the time how much I would regret that decision!
Having saved hundreds of dollars on photos I thought I would buy a really expensive camera (I thought $1K was an absurd amount of $$ for a camera at the time) and if I was going to spend all that money, I damn well better learn how to use it!!!! The first photos I took in manual mode was completely black. Just like parenting, it was SO much harder than I anticipated! I would have a play around with it during nap times and took a few too many photos of my orange tree learning the ins and outs. Of course I tried to take 'professional' style photos of my baby too, those of which will never see the light of day (to anyone but me). I practiced and watched hours upon hours of online learning and then I came across the amazing Kelly Brown teaching an online newborn photography course. I was already a fan of hers but watching her work and teach, I was in awe!!! She made it look so easy. I hung on every word and watched her over and over again. I took notes and along with my camera, notepad and laptop I made my kitchen table my classroom. This woman was so inspiring. She had began photography as a Mum from Brisbane and here she was in USA broadcasting her knowledge worldwide. That gave me the push to start my business. The rest in history.
Fast forward....
Kelly Brown being the entrepreneur that she is, began a huge event for photographers. A long weekend of the industry's best Photographers sharing their knowledge through demonstrations, seminars and networking. Oh, and did I mention that there was props? SOLD! I had to go.
I crunched the numbers and it just wasn't doable with having to leave my 2yo and travel/flights/accommodations. I was devastated. Oh well maybe next year.
Next year....
Baby Summit is on again. I CAN NOT MISS OUT this year. I saw on the Facebook page that Kelly was running a competition for a free ticket, so I entered, and I WON!!! I mentioned in my entry that I have NEVER won anything in my life. With the exception of plastic rocking horse placemats at a fair when I was about 4 on spin the wheel :)
I put on my big girl pants and drove to Adelaide, flew to the Gold Coast and had the time of my life. Not only did I meet my idol Kelly Brown (& Rob, Garrett & Jade), I also met so many other Photographers that I had followed online like Kathleen Vergara (Kath V), Jade Gao (Newborn Photography by Jade), Luisa Dunn, Leanne Curtis, Elise Gow, Kristen Cook, Erin Elizabeth Hoskins, Barb Uil (Jinky Art) and Sue Bryce. Everyone was so friendly and approachable, it was like being at school camp. I also met some amazing women who I have kept in contact with Rebecca, Sarah, Tarah, Shona, Pia, Megan & Danni. It feels so good to have a network I can talk photography with without boring my other friends.
Thank you Kelly & team for the unbelievable experience. I am hoping I can get back to another Summit in 2017 (or 2018) to see you all again.
